With many public buildings having to close due to weather and limited holiday hours this weekend, Shelter House has put out the call for donations.
In a release from the non-profit, they say their resources are being strained with many common warming spaces not being available. During these extreme weather events, the Emergency Shelter lobby opens for community members with nowhere else to go to come inside to stay safe away from the dangerous weather.
It takes extensive additional resources; staff who cover extra shifts and who brave the elements ensure their services continue uninterrupted. Community members have already answered the call this week for items like bottled water and snacks, which have helped sustain the community members visiting the shelters.
If you have the capacity to help, Shelter House is currently in urgent need of warm gloves, microwaveable meals, individually packaged snacks, bottled water, and coffee to keep folks hydrated and fed while they spend days in the lobby and out of the weather. They are also running low on blankets, towels, and new underwear.
