Longtime Regina teacher, student favorite “Mr. A” dies

A longtime staple of the Regina High School faculty has died.

John Allen, lovingly known to his students as “Mr. A”, succumbed to a months-long medical issue at the age of 83.

Allen taught at Regina for 34 years and continued subbing until 2019. He took many of his religion students on trips to the Vatican , including general audiences with multiple Popes.

Before teaching at Regina, Allen served 39 combined years in the US Army and Reserves. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4th class.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church on Jefferson Street. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Tuesday at the church with a rosary at 7PM. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Regina Foundation to establish The John and Margaret Allen Scholarship.
