An Iowa City woman was arrested on warrants stemming from an October incident where she allegedly stole merchandise from a Coralville store and hit an officer while escaping.

Police say the incident occurred at the Walmart on Commerce Drive the morning of October 31st. 27-year-old Rashonda Hannon of Sylvan Glen Court is accused of leaving the store with over $1800 in merchandise without attempting to pay for the items.

An officer was allegedly hit in the rear of his body by Hannon as she drove her Jeep Cherokee out of the lot.

A warrant was issued for Hannon’s arrest last month, and she was taken into custody Monday afternoon. She’s been charged with 2nd degree Theft and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations with the use of a weapon. If convicted on both charges, she faces a prison sentence of up to ten years.
