An Iowa City woman who allegedly blocked police access to her boyfriend as they were attempting to arrest him on an outstanding warrant back in July has been charged with assault and child endangerment.

According to the arrest report, officers were speaking with 23-year-old Delicita Felker of South Dodge Street and her boyfriend outside their apartment because of the man’s felony theft warrant. Felker allegedly stood between officers and her boyfriend so that he could retreat into the apartment, refusing to move.

As an officer moved her to the side so that they could enter the apartment, Felker reportedly stuck the officer in the back and pushed him in full view of her three-year-old boy. Police say Felker screamed and yelled at officers, causing the child to cry and cover his ears.

The child approached an officer later during the incident, and Felker reacted by picking up the boy and throwing him on the couch. When told she needed to identify herself because she was going to be arrested, Felker reportedly refused. Officers found her identity through in-house records.

A warrant was issued for Felker’s arrest, and she was taken into custody Monday morning. She’s been charged with Child Endangerment, Assault on a Peace Officer, Interference with Official Acts, and Harassment of a Public Official. If convicted on all counts, Felker could be sentenced to over three years in jail.
