IC City Council to decide whether to appoint or elect new member in wake of Weiner State Senate victory

The Iowa City City Council has accepted the resignation of Councilor Janice Weiner after she won her State Senate District 45 race over Republican opponent Harold Weilbrenner by a nearly 4 to 1 margin.

The resignation takes place on December 31^st. One year remains on her term.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Council will determine whether to fill the open position by special election or by appointing a replacement themselves.
