A popular holiday light show at the Coralville Reservoir is returning for a second year.

Holiday Lights at the Lake is a mile-long route including brightly-lit archways, characters from Santa’s ranch, storybook scenes, fantasy flower arrangements, moose and reindeer involved in Olympic sporting activities, and more. Proceeds benefit the Bird House Hospice Home of Johnson County.

This year’s Holiday Lights at the Lake kicks off with a private ceremony on Thursday from 4:30 -7:30 p.m. where sponsors, volunteers, media, friends of The Bird House and the Iowa City Area Business Partnership will gather to “flip the switch” and light up the event for another season.

The walk or drive-through holiday light show officially opens on Thanksgiving, then runs nightly through New Year’s Eve at West Overlook Campground at Coralville Lake. New this year to Holiday Lights at the Lake is the addition of “Memory Lane”, an area where community members can make a donation in memory of their loved one who has passed. Families are invited to attend a special Evening of Remembrance on November 20th.

Visitors can walk through on Wednesdays or drive through on all other days. The admission price for a Wednesday walk-through is $5. Admission on other evenings for cars, vans and SUVs is $10, large vans $20, mini-buses or small limos $30, or chartered and school buses or large limos $50. Hours are Sunday through Thursday 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased through Eventbrite, or cash at the gate.
