The Johnson County Board of Supervisors approved a contractor this week for the Johnson County Courthouse renovation project.
The Daily Iowan reports that the contract with Tricon, based in Cedar Rapids, paves the way for the project to commence.
Supervisors estimated the renovation costs at roughly $2 million, but Tricon’s bid came in a little over $1.8 million. The original bidding document required that the project be completed by July 1st 2023, but left the door open for extensions if needed.
The recommendation of Tricon came from Special Projects Manager Ray Forsythe, who said he got favorable references from the University of Iowa, the Iowa City Community School District, and the cities of Iowa City, Coralville and North Liberty.
Supervisor Rod Sullivan told the DI that the project has already been delayed once, so they want the project done in a timely manner.
Renovations to the second floor include floor replacement, new courtrooms, new offices, and making bathrooms ADA accessible.
