A Vinton man was taken into custody after allegedly being found in possession of a vehicle the owner left overnight at a repair shop.
According to police, the vehicle owner dropped his truck off at Tires Plus in Coralville Wednesday night to have it serviced, and called Thursday morning to confirm that they had it. The victim was told that the truck wasn’t there.
The vehicle owner then got multiple photos and videos from people showing his truck driving around. He eventually found the truck, occupied, at the Fast Break gas station around 11:45 am and contacted police.
Officers followed the truck, being driven by 23-year-old Logan Moody, into the back of the Lepic Kreoger Realtors building on Mormon Trek Boulevard. Moody then allegedly fled on foot, running across the street to a different parking lot. Officers spotted Moody and ordered him to stop, but he continued to flee. He then reportedly squared up his shoulders, lifted his shirt, reached into his waist band and made “finger gun” motions towards officers. Once Moody was surrounded by squad cars, he went to the ground.
A search incident to arrest allegedly turned up a marijuana one-hitter pipe and one live ammunition round in his shorts pocket. A drawstring bag in Moody’s possession reportedly contained a meth pipe and a small quantity of the drug in a baggie. Under Miranda, Moody allegedly admitted that he had meth in his bag. He also admitted to taking a sub-woofer and amp valued at approximately $1500 out of the truck and selling it. The vehicle owner also reported that fog lights previously attached to the vehicle were missing.
Moody was taken into custody and faces several charges. They include 1st degree Theft, 2nd degree Theft, Dominion or Control of a Weapon by a Domestic Abuser, a Controlled Substance violation, and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, Moody faces a prison term of over 21 years.
Moody is also on detainer from Benton County.
