The Iowa City Truth and Reconciliation Commission postponed their election of a new chair and vice chair at their most recent meeting.
Vice Chair Chastity Dillard has been interim chair since former chair Amel Ali was suspended in August. Ali resigned on September 27th, which necessitated a vote on a permanent chair and vice chair.
Newly appointed Commissioner Lauren Merritt motioned to postpone the vote until the commission’s next meeting. She said that she and Marie Krebs, the other new commissioner, need a little time to get to know the other commissioners before making an informed vote.
The motion passed unanimously.
The vote will now take place at the next Truth and Reconciliation Commission meeting on October 20th.
