Transient accused of assaulting, robbing former domestic partner

A transient faces charges that he assaulted and robbed his former domestic partner.

22-year-old Darlin Sanchez-Vallecillo was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 4:45 Wednesday afternoon. Iowa City Police say just before midnight on September 24th Sanchez-Vallecillo struck the victim in the head with a metal water bottle at an address on Church Street. He then allegedly stole the person’s phone, access card and keys to the residence.

The victim lived in a domestic relationship with Sanchez-Vallecillo for three months. The person suffered marks on their head, arm and leg.

University of Iowa Police caught up with Sanchez-Vallecillo as he was filling up a reportedly stolen car at the Kum & Go on West Burlington Street just after 4:15 Wednesday afternoon. A foot chase ensued south on Madison Street, then through an apartment complex before crossing back northbound over Burlington Street before finally coming to an end near the Lindquist Center.

Sanchez-Vallecillo is charged with 1st Degree Robbery, 2nd Degree Theft, Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 31 years in prison.
