The University of Iowa is requesting an outside auditing firm to look at the construction on the new hospital and offices being built in North Liberty .
The Gazette reports that the firm will be tasked with reviewing cost, contract compliance, management and payments on the project, which just got a budget hike of about 33 percent. The increase was mostly driven by inflation.
University officials told The Gazette an audit would begin “as soon as feasible after a vendor is selected and continue through the completion of construction.” The firm would provide periodic updates to the Board of Regents and senior officials at the University of Iowa and UI Health Care. The goal is to keep the project in check and prevent the mismanagement and cost overruns that plagued the Stead Family Children’s Hospital project.
UI officials still say the project is on track to be completed by summer of 2025.
The request for potential auditing firms was issued last week and responses are due by October 19th.
