A transient faces charges that he broke into an Iowa City residence, then ate the victim’s food and drank her wine.
Iowa City Police were called to an address on Ellis Avenue at 7:45pm last Tuesday for a subject who had broken into the residence. The occupant reported arriving home to find 36-year-old Chase Stoudt eating her food and drinking her wine. He allegedly fled out the back door, but was captured by police on Park Road.
Stoudt reportedly told investigators that he had just left a friend’s house on Ferson Avenue, but couldn’t give an exact address. He also allegedly gave a false name and date of birth.
Police say Stoudt tried to walk away while the investigation was ongoing, initially ignoring their commands to stop. He was detained, and an open bottle of Hawkeye Vodka was reportedly found inside his backpack.
Stoudt allegedly admitted to being inside the woman’s residence. He was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication, Interference With Official Acts, Providing False Identify Information and Violating a No-Contact Order. The order came after Stoudt allegedly broke into the same residence on September 18th, then called the victim from the back of a squad car after his arrest. Following that incident he was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Domestic Abuse Assault, 2nd Degree Harassment, Public Intoxication, and 4th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all counts against him, Stoudt now faces a maximum sentence of over 27 years in prison.
