An Iowa City man who was wanted on several warrants, including a failure to appear for a case management conference on a drug and weapons charge, was taken into custody Saturday.

Police arrested 32-year-old Victor Curry of Beach View Drive a little after 1:30 am in the 20 block of West Burlington Street. A probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle Curry was found in, and a purse in his possession allegedly contained 119 grams of marijuana, separated into 11 different packages. Curry reportedly admitted that the marijuana was his.

Curry was charged with a drug stamp violation and a controlled substance violation. He could face up to ten years in prison if convicted on both charges.

Back in December, police arrested Curry on an outstanding warrant for marijuana possession, and in May 2021 he was charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon after allegedly giving money to a co-defendant to purchase a handgun for him. He failed to show up for his case management conference in August ahead of his November trial date. With Curry’s arrest, the case management conference will be rescheduled.
