Iowa City police issue citations to underage drinkers at downtown bars on a regular basis, but a recent arrest involved a Burge Hall resident who claimed never to have been issued any state identification.
Officers stopped the female student at the Summit Bar a little after 1:30 am Friday and requested an ID. She claimed not to have any identification, but eventually produced a fictitious Illinois license featuring her name but a date of birth making her to appear to be of legal drinking age.
The 18-year-old then provided her date of birth to be in 2003 twice, which is still under legal drinking age, then claimed never to have been issued a state ID. She also denied being a University of Iowa student.
The woman was asked to look through her wallet for something with her name on it, and a temporary ID was visible in the wallet window with her correct birth date on it.
She reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance, impaired judgement and impaired decision making. A PBT showed her blood-alcohol level at .112 percent.
The student was charged with providing a false ID, public intoxication, and possession of a fictitious license, and could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail if convicted.
