A North Liberty woman was arrested after allegedly refusing to provide her son’s name to officers who were investigating a fight between him and another juvenile.

Police were investigating the incident the evening of August 29th in the area of Shady Glen Court in Iowa City. 28-year-old Shawana Coleman of Nichols Lane was reportedly being uncooperative with officers, refusing to give her son’s name or a description of what happened despite being asked multiple times.

Coleman was allegedly given several chances to comply with the officers, and at one point told them her son’s name was Donald Duck and he was born in 2016. She then reportedly gave a name that police believed to be false, and Coleman was placed under arrest. She allegedly said that she would still not reveal her son’s name.

Judge Mark Thompson has set a non-jury trial date of October 4th. If convicted on both counts, Coleman could be sentenced to up to 60 days in jail on Harassment of a Public Official and Interference with Official Acts charges.
