An area transient with a history of theft convictions has been arrested after allegedly using a credit card stolen during a car burglary.

27-year-old Jerome Brooks was reportedly seen on surveillance video Saturday August 27 just before 9pm using a stolen credit card to make two purchases, one for $50 and another for $70. The victim told authorities that his card was stolen from his vehicle during a burglary that took place earlier that day. The video shows Brooks leaving the Kum & Go on South Gilbert Street with the purchased goods.

Brooks was interviewed by police, and he denied visiting any Kum & Go in the past two months. However, he allegedly admitted that he was the person on the surveillance video when it was shown to him.

Brooks has four previous theft convictions, and has another two pending. He was also wanted on a warrant stemming from an August 10th incident when a drivers license and insurance card was found on his person that had been stolen from a vehicle two days prior.

Brooks was taken into custody and charged with two counts of 3rd degree Theft and two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card. If convicted on all charges, Brooks could face up to 8 years in prison.
