A Coralville man was taken into custody on warrants stemming from an alleged domestic assault and theft earlier this summer.
Police say the incident occurred the afternoon of July 26th at the woman’s 13th Street residence. 38-year-old Rick Nance of Boston Way knocked on the woman’s back door and she answered, but stood in the threshold of the doorway because she didn’t want him to come in.
Nance reportedly pushed his way past the woman and entered the residence. He allegedly took her phone and ripped the necklace off her neck. The woman suffered a scratch that later scabbed over, and Nance fled the scene immediately thereafter. Nance and the woman had previously lived together but separated two weeks prior to the incident.
A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest August 2nd; he was taken into custody Monday morning. He has been charged with 2nd degree Burglary, second offense Domestic Abuse Assault, and 4th degree Theft. If convicted on all counts, Nance faces a prison term of up to 12 years. After his initial appearance Monday, he was released to the custody of the Department of Correctional Services. Future court dates have yet to be set.
