A University of Iowa law student pleaded guilty to public intoxication charges after responding officers allegedly found him passed out, naked from the waist down.

Around 1:20 am Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Orchard Street for a welfare check on a possibly intoxicated male passed out in the entryway. They reportedly found a 21-year-old male UI student wearing a t-shirt and nothing else, with scrapes on his knees and grass stains.

It took multiple attempts to wake the man up, and he allegedly tried to walk away from the incident several times once he was awakened. According to the arrest report, the man’s speech was so heavily slurred that they couldn’t understand him, and had to ask his name several times before they could identify him. He gave his birthdate as July 2001, and when asked where he was, he responded “2001.” He allegedly answered 2001 to several subsequent questions before eventually lying back down and going back to sleep.

The man reportedly smelled strongly of ingested alcohol, had unsteady balance, slurred speech, admitted to being drunk, and was unable to answer where he was, where he lives, what city he was in, or other simple questions. He refused a PBT.

The suspect was taken to the Johnson County Jail and charged with Public Intoxication. On Monday, he pleaded guilty and was fined $105 by judge Chad Thomas.
