A drunk driving suspect faces charges that he tried to bribe Iowa City Police.
25-year-old Alexander Regennitter of 14th Avenue in Coralville was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 3:45 Wednesday morning. Police say just after 2am Regennitter had been squealing the tires of his monocycle as he raced up-and-down the area of the intersection of Clinton and Burlington Streets.
Regennitter allegedly showed signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking, and provided breath alcohol levels of .130% and .111%. He was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated and Careless Driving. Regennitter allegedly resisted arrest, and he was additionally charged with Interference With Official Acts.
While being processed at ICPD headquarters, Regennitter reportedly offered an officer $1,000 to let him walk out the door without any charges. Regennitter reportedly increased that price to $1,500, and claimed his mother would “definitely” pay the officer. Police say he offered to make the transition with Cash App.
Regennitter now faces a felony Bribery charge. If convicted on all charges against him, he faces a maximum of six years in prison.
