One person injured in shooting outside H Bar

One person was injured in an overnight shooting outside a bar near downtown Iowa City.

University of Iowa officials sent a Hawkalert at 2:48 Sunday morning indicating there had been a shooting at H Bar on South Van Buren Street.  According to the Iowa City Police Daily Activity Log, a caller reported hearing gunshots outside the club and seeing people running just before 2:30am. A second caller reported a fight outside the nearby L&M Mighty Shop just before 2:45am.

Police say a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Early investigation into the incident determined multiple people were in the alley when the shots were fired. The suspected shooter was last seen fleeing the area in a vehicle. No additional information has been released.

Police received a report just after 2:45 Saturday morning of a large fight outside H Bar involving an estimated 30 people and lasting about a half-hour. It is unknown if Sunday’s shooting is related to that incident.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the ICPD at 319-356-5275. In addition, anyone in that area with security cameras is asked to review their recordings and contact the Iowa City Police Department with any potential footage or information about the incident.
