A Cedar Rapids man will stand trial this January for his role in the January 6th breach of the US Capitol.
The Gazette reports that 36-year-old Leo Kelly was identified as one of the insurrectionists in a New Yorker video; he also reportedly told the newspaper and LifeSiteNews in January 2021 that he was one of the first men to breach the Capitol building.
Kelly has been charged with obstruction of an official proceeding; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; entering and remaining on the floor of Congress; entering and remaining in certain rooms in the Capitol; disorderly conduct in a Capitol Building; and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol Building.
Kelly has stated that he didn’t destroy or damage any property when he was inside.
Kelly’s lawyer and prosecutors had been working on a plea deal, but recent documents do not mention any agreement. Trial has been set in a Washington DC Federal Court for January 16th.
