An Iowa City man stopped for no registration on his moped was arrested after drugs were found.

The incident occurred just before 3am Sunday.  50-year-old Trevor Gast was stopped near the intersection of Potter Street and Oakdale Boulevard for having no visible registration on his Wolf moped. Gast was unable to provide proof of registration, and the vehicle was found to be stolen.

Gast sat on a curb while the officer was processing the information. After being tested for impairment, he was charged with OWI. The area near where Gast was seated was then searched, where a baggie of white crystals and an unmarked bottle of pills identified as Clonazepam were allegedly located.

A subsequent search of a backpack Gast possessed reportedly turned up a pair of bolt cutters.

He has been arrested and faces charges of first offense OWI, two counts of controlled substance possession, possession of burglar’s tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, Gast could be sentenced to up to over six years in prison.
