A Davenport man who was wanted on warrants stemming from vehicle break-ins from 2019 was taken into custody over the weekend.
Police say on the afternoon of November 23rd that year, then-30-year-old Nicholas Patton broke into a 2018 Buick Regal and a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country van, both locked and unoccupied, at the UI Parking lot on FInkbine Commuter Drive by shattering the front passenger windows with an unknown object. Patton was identified using surveillance video footage as being in the parking area when the crimes occurred.
In both cases, the victim’s credit cards were reportedly stolen and subsequently used hours later. Store personnel at various locations were able to identify Patton through their surveillance and through photo lineups.
An arrest warrant for Patton was issued on January 14th, 2020. On Saturday afternoon, Patton was taken into custody at the Johnson County Jail. He faces four counts of Identity Theft, 3 counts of 3rd degree Vehicle Burglary, and one count of Attempted 3rd Degree Vehicle Burglary. If convicted on all counts, Patton, who’s now 33, could be sentenced to up to 25 years.
