Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a central Iowa woman on drug charges after she allegedly crashed her car on Interstate 80 near Coralville.

Dispatchers first received calls of a reckless driver heading eastbound near the Tiffin exit just after 1:15 Saturday morning. Moments later, the 2019 Nissan Sentra was reported as hitting a concrete median just east of the I-380 interchange.

Arriving officers say the driver, identified as 63-year-old Deborah Theeler of Des Moines, showed signs of impairment. No alcohol was found in her system, but a urine test reportedly came back positive for methamphetamine.

Theeler was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.  A search of her bag at the Johnson County Jail reportedly turned up about 11 grams of meth and a pipe with meth residue.

Theeler is additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd and Subsequent Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of 11 years in prison.
