A Tiffin man has been arrested after a police chase through the city.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a domestic disturbance involving 36-year-old Darrell Rice just before 10:30 Thursday night. Arriving officers report seeing Rice driving away from the scene with his headlights turned off.
Rice reportedly refused to pull over after the deputy activated his lights and siren. A chase ensued, winding through the intersection of Mopar Drive and Park Road before heading up Creekside Drive. Police say Rice reached speeds up to 61 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. Rice allegedly jumped a curb, parked the car and ran towards his nearby backyard on Creekside Drive. He was captured after a brief foot chase, and investigators say he showed signs of intoxication.
Rice was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 5am Friday and charged with Felony Eluding, Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense, Interference With Official Acts, Speeding, and various traffic violations. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over seven years in prison.
