A project with the goal of improving Johnson County has shared its plan for the next several years and announced their hiring of an executive director to lead that project.

Better Together 2030 published their visioning plan this week, and includes five areas of focus and nearly a dozen priority projects to achieve their goals.

Cady Sinnwell Gerlach has been hired to run Better Together 2030 as of August 1st. She previously served as the director of strategic operations at Shelter House in Iowa City since 2018.

Better Together 2030 incorporates the Iowa City Area Development Group, Iowa City Downtown District, Think Iowa City, Iowa City Area Business Partnership, and leaders from area government, business and education.

Last year an online survey was available for county residents to express their views and priorities for the coming years, accessed by over 560 people.

The published report, “All in Vision: Strategies for a 2030 shared future in Johnson County,” focuses on  environment, neighborhoods and districts, a well-connected mobile region, inclusive economic ecosystem and re-imagining social services.

Among the recommendations in the report is investing in a regional transit system and ensuring all residents have affordable high-speed internet.
