The summertime Diversity Market on Iowa City’s southeast side will have a year-round location soon.

The Press-Citizen reports that the owners of the old Slumberland location in Pepperwood Plaza are developing the property to allow vendors from the Diversity Market to lease space year round. The front part of the building will be transformed into a space for a common area with seating and five vendors. The back part of the building will feature rentable self-storage units, with the upper floor featuring office space and additional storage units.

The property will also feature an outdoor covered patio, an outdoor entertainment space, and WiFI availability.

Project developer Caleb Wilson told the Press-Citizen that they plan to call it the South District Market, and picture it as a smaller-scale NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids. Construction on the space began last week and could be completed by February, but the office space could be available by this fall.
