An Iowa City woman claimed divine intervention as the reason she vandalized a vehicle in her trailer park.

According to the criminal complaint, 38-year-old Nubia Flores Mesa of the Hilltop Mobile Home Park walked up to a parked car Thursday night and broke the passenger taillight using her walking stick.

When confronted about the incident, Flores Mesa allegedly admitted to breaking the taillight because God told her to. The vehicle owner and Flores Mesa had no prior interaction beforehand.

Flores Mesa was taken into custody and charged with 5th degree Criminal Mischief, a simple misdemeanor. She was released on her own recognizance; a non-jury trial is scheduled for September 1st.
