A Monday morning fire has displaced a Cedar Rapids couple.

A Fire Department release indicates that they were dispatched to the two-story residence on the 700 block of High Point Drive Southwest a little before 7:30 am. Arriving crews discovered heavy fire on the rear of the home extending into the attic space. Once a search for occupants was completed, crews secured utilities, extinguished the fire, and assisted in salvaging items for the family.

Smoke detectors were working at the time of the incident, and the home suffered extensive fire and smoke damage, with water damage throughout the residence.

No medical treatment was required, and the couple has been displaced from their home.

Cause of the fire has been ruled as unintentional; a damage estimate has not been released.
