A Chicago man who has a no-contact order with an Iowa City woman allegedly violated the order over the weekend and was charged with assault.
Police went to the victim’s address after the mother called authorities. The mother stated that her daughter called her and told her that her boyfriend had assaulted her. The two have a valid no-contact order in place between them, issued in April of this year.
Officers who arrived on scene discovered 28-year-old Jarvarise Harper of Chicago in the back yard of the victim’s residence. When they stopped Harper, he told them that he was just running through the yard, coming from a friend’s house nearby. Witnesses on scene allege that Harper pushed the woman, while she stated that he pulled her hair and punched her in the face.
Harper was recently convicted of domestic assault this past March in Johnson County, and in June 2021 out of Cook County Illinois. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail and charged with violating the no-contact order, and 3rd or subsequent Domestic Assault, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
