An Iowa City transient is facing multiple charges after twice violating a no-contact order.

According to the criminal complaint, 46-year-old Demetrius Jones was outside of the victim’s residence on the evening of February 18th, trying to make contact with her by knocking on the window. The victim has several no-contact orders against Jones, including one issued in October 2021. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Friday around 10pm, officers responded to the victim’s residence on reports of a fight. The victim said Jones, her ex, was just at the residence. Officers left and found Jones near the intersection of Broadway Street and Crosspark Avenue. He allegedly provided a false name, but the name had a warrant hit.

Jones allegedly tensed up and began to move back and forth in an attempt to get away from police. He was brought to a squad car and they attempted to get him inside. Jones then allegedly turned towards officers and told them he was going to spit in their faces. He reportedly put his feet on the frame of the back door, refusing to get in.

As police forced Jones inside, he allegedly spit into an officer’s face, then kicked him in the chest.

Once Jones was identified correctly, the no-contact warrant was discovered. He reportedly showed several signs of intoxication during the altercation, but refused a PBT.

Jones was arrested. He faces two contempt charges for violating the no-contact orders, Providing False Identification Information, Interference with Official Acts, two counts of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all charges, Jones could be sentenced to up to 27 months in jail.
