An Iowa City man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly assaulting his longtime girlfriend.
Police were called to the Harlocke Street apartment of 18-year-old Lorenzo Williams at around 8:30 Friday night on reports of a fight. Williams’ girlfriend allegedly told police that they got into a fight that turned physical, resulting in her being knocked to the ground. She stated that she was afraid Williams was going to kill her, and ran out of the apartment.
Williams reportedly ran after his girlfriend and grabbed her by the hair, yanking her to the ground and onto the concrete. Witnesses allege that they saw Williams standing over the woman and pushing her down when she tried to stand up.
According to the arrest report, the two have been a couple for 4 years and are currently living together. The woman suffered injuries from the incident.
Williams was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
