Reportedly riding his bike at night without a required light has led to multiple charges against an area transient.

50-year-old Roger Hunter was observed near the area of Highway 6 and Boyrum around 9:30pm for riding his bike without a light after sunset. An officer activated his squad car lights and sirens and told Hunter to stop but he allegedly continued to peddle away. He eventually stopped riding, but then allegedly took off on foot. He was caught after a brief chase.

During the handcuffing process, Hunter was reportedly found to have a bong, a pipe consistent with meth use, a small amount of marijuana, and a container with an unidentified substance. Additionally, a check of the serial number on Hunter’s bike allegedly came back as stolen out of the University of Iowa.

The bike is valued at $650.

Hunter’s criminal record includes two previous controlled substance violations and two theft convictions.

He has been charged with 3rd degree Theft, a 3rd or subsequent Controlled Substance violation, Interference with Official Acts, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Hunter could be sentenced to over seven years in prison.
