An Iowa City man has been arrested after his alleged involvement in a shots-fired incident over Memorial Day weekend on the Iowa City Ped Mall.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to the alley near the Fieldhouse Bar around 1:45 am Saturday May 28th on reports of a large fight and a shot fired. Video surveillance allegedly shows 20 year-old Dhyaaaldin Mohammad of Westwinds Drive producing a pistol and firing a shot during the fight.

Police recovered a fired cartridge casing on scene, and further video surveillance reportedly shows Mohammad leaving the scene after the incident. He was later found in possession of a Taurus G3 pistol loaded with the same ammunition as the spent cartridge recovered from the scene. Later testing confirmed the bullet was fired from Mohammad’s pistol.

Clothing consistent with the video footage was reportedly found at Mohammad’s residence during a search.

A warrant for Mohammad’s arrest was requested Monday; he was taken to the Johnson County Jail late Tuesday night. He’s been charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon in order to Injure or Provoke Fear, Carrying Weapons, and Reckless Use of a Firearm. If convicted on all counts, Mohammad could be  sentenced to over 12 years in prison.
