The abandoned Pizza Hut restaurant in Iowa City’s Southside District could have new life soon.
The Press Citizen reports that a new Popeye’s restaurant cleared an early hurdle to get approval for a location in Pepperwood Plaza.
The City’s Board of Adjustment voted unanimously last week to allow a two-lane drive through for the fried chicken restaurant. They plan to either demolish or rebuild the Pizza Hut location and turn it into a Popeye’s with the drive-through lanes and 18 parking spots.
The restaurant plans to be open from 10:30am to 11pm weekdays and until Midnight Fridays and Saturday.
The on site plan review, which needs city staff approval, could take several months. The franchise has a Coralville location just off the Coralville Strip at Coral Ridge Avenue.
