Fairfax neighbors complaining about oversize flag at bank

A 3200-square-foot American flag flying from the Fairfax State Savings Bank is upsetting neighbors of the bank, to the point they took their concerns to the City Council this week.

KCRG TV reports that the flag was only supposed to be on display on certain holidays; Memorial Day, Flag Day, and the 4th of July. But the neighbors say the flag makes too much noise when it blows in the wind, and the light display illuminated their homes.

A group of neighbors told the city council that the flag violates the city’s nuisance ordinance.

The station says bank vice president John Huiskamp is willing to work with the neighbors, and said the flag would be restricted to flying six days a year. He told the council the flag wasn’t meant to upset anyone, and the bank wanted to have a landmark Fairfax could be proud of.

The council didn’t take action and suggested the group work with the bank, but the group said they wanted the council to keep an open mind about what they have to hear all day long for those six days a year.
