A Wapello man faces a number of charges after allegedly casing a woman’s residence, attempting to break in, and threatening to kill her.

Police say the incident occurred around 10:30 Sunday night. 22-year-old Hector Villagrana reportedly attempted to break into the woman’s Taft Avenue residence using a lock-picking tool. The woman had received text messages from Villagrana beforehand indicating that he planned to break in and assault her and anyone else who was with her.

Villagrana then damaged the woman’s vehicle and door lock when she retreated into the vehicle to get away from him, causing an estimated $1600 in damages.

The woman told police that she had evidence of Villagrana casing the property the day before the incident. She said she’s in fear of her personal safety and has made it clear that she doesn’t want Villagrana to contact her.

He was arrested and faces charges of 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, 3rd degree Harassment, 3rd degree Attempted Burglary, Stalking, and Possession of Burglar’s Tools.  If convicted on all counts, Villagrana faces a prison term of up to over eleven years.
