A retired Coralville banker stood out among the seven people who applied for a temporary seat on the City Council, and is expected to be appointed at the Council’s meeting Tuesday.
The Gazette reports that Keith Jones will serve out the remaining term of Jill Dodds, who resigned earlier this year after her husband was charged with sexual abuse relating to his daycare business.
The Coralville City Council then decided on appointing a replacement rather than hold a special election because of the time and expense involved.
Jones indicated in his application and interview that he will not run for re-election in 2023. He said that he was interested in being a part of Coralville government, but felt his job at Hills Bank would cause too much of a conflict of interest.
Jones is currently president of the Coralville Public Library Foundation, Coralville Community Fund, and the Coralville Community Food Pantry.
Jones told The Gazette after last week’s meeting that he will try to get up to speed as fast as he can once he is appointed.
