A trial date has been set for the husband of a former Coralville city councilor accused of sexually abusing a child.

63-year-old Jeff Dodds of 12th Avenue is set to stand trial on October 4th. Dodds, the husband of former Coralville city councilor Jill Dodds, entered a not guilty plea earlier this week to three charges of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse. According to the criminal complaints, the incidents occurred between June 1st and November 19th of last year. Dodds, who co-owns Simple Abundance Child Care with his wife, is accused of committing sexual abuse on a child when she was in the couple’s care at their home address.

Jill Dodds later resigned from the city council, criticizing her fellow councilors, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the media during her resignation speech.

If convicted on all three charges, Jeff Dodds faces a maximum of 75 years in prison. A case management conference is set for August 5th.
