New coronavirus cases in Iowa have surged in the past week, rising 90.7 percent to 3960. Last week’s total was 2077.

USA TODAY reports that Iowa is 36th among states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis. 32 states across the country had more cases last week than the week before.

However, Johnson County saw a reduction in the number of cases; they went from 633 cases to 484 cases in the past week. There were no deaths reported either week, so the pandemic total remains at 153 in the county.

The number of new cases, though falling, still leaves Johnson County in the “high transmission” category.
