A North Liberty man was taken into custody Saturday afternoon after allegedly trying to break into a Tiffin residence.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:20. 27-year-old Earl Toomer of Heritage Drive came to a Grant Street residence and attempted to force his way inside. The residents were able to prevent Toomer from gaining entry, and he allegedly threatened to kill the residents. He then reportedly began to trash property located on the front porch. Among the items destroyed were several flower pots and a leaf blower.
Toomer also allegedly knocked out the glass in the front door and threw a hammer through one of the windows of the home. He reportedly also broke several decorative items located on the porch. Police say he caused over $1000 in damage to the residence and property.
Toomer was taken into custody and charged with 1st degree Harassment and 3rd degree Criminal mischief, both aggravated misdemeanors. If convicted on both counts, Toomer could face up to four years in jail.
A no-contact order was requested between Toomer and the residents.
