Developers in Cedar Rapids are forging ahead with their plans to apply for a gaming license despite a two-year moratorium bill on new licensing sitting on the governor’s desk awaiting her signature.
In a press release from the Cedar Rapids Development Group on Sunday, they unveiled plans for Cedar Crossing, a proposed $250 million, 160,000 square-foot entertainment and cultural arts complex that will be built in the heart of downtown. Together with the Linn County Gaming Association, the Group will jointly apply for a gaming license with the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission after a proposed state moratorium on new licenses ends in June 2024.
Peninsula Pacific Entertainment will be spearheading the project; they’ve developed the Diamond Jo in Dubuque, the Diamond Jo Casino in Worth County as well as the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Sioux City. The project has full support from Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell and Linn County Board of Supervisors chairman Ben Rogers.
Cedar Crossing will have bars, restaurants, a 1,500 capacity event center and a venue called The Clubhouse that is tied to professional golfer and Cedar Rapids native Zach Johnson.
