President George W. Bush is coming to Iowa at the invitation of the West Branch-based Hoover Presidential Foundation.
Bush and his wife, Laura, will receive the Hoover Presidential Foundation Great Humanitarian Award. According to the foundation’s web site, the award was created to recognize individuals “who have demonstrated or provided meritorious and altruistic support to those in need”. It is offered in the spirit of Herbert Hoover’s efforts to save millions of western Europeans from starvation dating back to 1914.
The October 7th event is being held at the Doubletree by Hilton in Cedar Rapids. Other scheduled speakers include Gov. Kim Reynolds, former Gov. Terry Branstad, and the host of PBS’s “Firing Line”, Margaret Hoover. Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell will host.
