Cedar Rapids firefighters extinguished a garage fire Saturday morning.
A passerby called 9-1-1 just after 8am after noticing smoke coming from behind a residence at 300 36th Street NE. Arriving firefighters found an active blaze in the back of the residence, including the detached garage. The fire was contained to the area of origin and quickly extinguished.
The detached garage was a total loss, but the house itself only suffered minor heat damage to the outside, with little smoke or water damage.
Two parents and their children were home at the time. There were no reported injuries.
The fire remains under investigation.
