A convicted domestic abuser has been arrested after Iowa City Police say he posted a selfie of himself holding a gun.

Iowa law prohibits convicted domestic abusers from owning weapons.

According to arrest records, Iowa City Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Broadway Street at 10:00 Tuesday night. Investigators say the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Anthony Alexander, had posted a photo of himself holding a firearm inside his apartment a few days earlier. A search of the premises allegedly turned up Louis Vuitton bag in a bedroom closet that contained several rounds of .45 caliber ammunition. There was also a pay stub inside the bag indicating it belonged to Alexander.

Alexander has domestic abuse convictions from 2018 and 2019. He’s now charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm By A Domestic Abuser. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
