Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks is coming under fire after her campaign manager tweeted out photos of him holding her campaign signs while posing in front of flags for a far right militia organization.

About ten days ago Miller-Meeks’ campaign manager, Elliott Husbands, tweeted photos of him and others holding Miller-Meeks campaign singgs inside the headquarters of the Muscatine Republicans. One of the photos was taken in front of a “Three-Percenters” flag, which looks like a 1776 American flag with a Roman numeral “III” inside the circle of stars. The Three-Percenters are a right-wing militia faction with ties to white supremacy, The main group dissolved after several leaders were arrested following the January 6th, 2021 insurrection, but it lives on through splinter organization.  The Southern Poverty Law Center says while the group is not overtly white supremacist, its members have been tied to attacks on Muslim-Americans. It has also led the charge against school districts teaching what the group considers “critical race theory” in classrooms.

Miller-Meeks retweeted the flag photo before it was later deleted. But before it was removed, the Scott County Democrats retweeted a screencap while calling out the imagery.

When reached for comment by the Quad City Times, Husbands reportedly said he “didn’t really think this was a story”. Miller-Meeks has yet to publicly comment.
