Texas woman arrested after allegedly trying to cash stolen check using stolen ID

A Texas woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly taking a car with stolen plates to a credit union drive through to cash a stolen check using the person’s stolen ID.

According to police, 34-year-old Sara Reed of Arlington Texas drove to the Veridian Credit Union branch on the Coralville Strip Tuesday at around 3:40pm. She was operating a 2022 Infinity that surveillance video shows had plates on it that had been reported stolen to University of Iowa police earlier that day.

Reed was called in by staff at the credit union, stating that she was trying to cash a check exceeding $750.00 in someone else’s name, using that person’s stolen ID as her own.

Reed was located and arrested. She has been charged with 3rd degree Fraudulent Practice, two counts of 5th degree Theft, Unlawful use of a License, and Improper use of Registration. If convicted on all counts, Reed could be sentenced to over two years in jail.
