University of Iowa football cornerback Jermari Harris was arrested for OWI early Sunday morning.

According to the police report, the incident occurred around 2:45 am at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Myrtle Avenue, where Harris was stopped for not activating the headlights on his Dodge Dart.

Harris allegedly had bloodshot eyes, impaired speech, unsteady balance and had the odor of ingested alcohol. He reportedly admitted that he had been drinking. A Datamaster showed Harris’ blood-alcohol level at .096 percent.

The Gazette reports that a team spokesman said the athletics department will follow “normal procedures,” and Harris is subject to the rules and regulations in department’s student-athlete code of conduct.

Harris was charged with first offense OWI, a serious misdemeanor.
