The husband of a Coralville City Council member has been arrested and charged with the sexual abuse of a girl under the age of 14.
According to the criminal complaint, the incidents occurred between June 1st and November 19th of last year. 63-year-old Jeffrey Dodds of 12th Avenue, who co-owns Simple Abundance Child Care with his wife Jill Dodds, is accused of committing sexual abuse on the child when she was in the couple’s care at their home address.
KCRG TV reports that the business’ website indicates that the Dodds’ care for 12 children ranging in age from birth to five years. The accused previously worked as an EMT and firefighter.
A warrant for Dodds’ arrest was issued on April 15th; he was booked at the Johnson County Jail Monday morning. Jeffrey Dodds has been charged with two counts of 2nd degree Sexual Abuse and could be sentenced to up to 50 years in prison if convicted on both charges.
Jill Dodds has been a member of the Coralville City Council since 2012.
