A San Antonio Texas man has been taken into custody after police say he gave them a false name when they discovered a firearm and drugs in his vehicle.
Coraliville police were approached by Walmart employees around 1:15 am Monday, who told them that a vehicle was on the west side of the building, and the occupant was throwing garbage outside. Upon approach, the officer observed a bag looking like garbage on the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect in the driver’s seat, 41-year-old Jai Banks, allegedly gave a false name to the officer. A strong odor of marijuana was observed, and a probable cause search was conducted.
Police say they found a Smith and Wesson firearm in the center console, a small baggie of marijuana in Banks’ pocket, two meth pipes, an open bottle of liquor, and two digital scales. He allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance. Banks refused to submit to a post-arrest PBT.
A check of the man’s criminal records showed multiple previous felonies.
Banks faces a number of charges, including Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Felon, 3rd or subsequent Controlled Substance violation, Unauthorized Possession of Offensive Weapons, Carrying Weapons while Intoxicated, Providing False ID Information, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Banks could be sentenced to over nine years in prison.
